Building Healthy Self Care Habits

The first thing you need to do in building healthy self care habits is to take the pressure off of the idea of "new year, new you." Putting pressure on yourself to change everything at the beginning of the year is setting yourself up for failure.

Instead, start with your goals and healthy self care habits for January. I will give you an example. I would start with three major goals and 3 minor. I will share my major goals so you have an idea. My major goals for January consist of the following:

1. Get up at 6am every day - why? I want to start working out before my day starts and have my evenings free with my husband. 2. I want to be more mindful of what I put in my body. I will be doing this by planning my meals and consuming less alcohol- why? I would like to lose weight and strengthen my health. 3. I have taken the time to learn the process, now I want to make soap and have it live on the site by end of Q1 -why? I want to provide soothing, clean soaps that are hydrating, affordable and a great alternative to what is on the market today.

As you can see, these are the goals that are major, so they are the goals that are most important to me in January. They are realistic, attainable, but not small. They will challenge me to become a better version of myself and expand my brand. Major goals can be personal, related to business or your love life...anything that is important to you.

Now let's talk self care. Get into the habit of writing out your self care plans for the week. This will be different for everyone and it will change often depending on stages of life and plans. But make sure you do it! Do not avoid your well being. Self care is a term that is entirely defined by you. Self care can be reading one chapter of a book with a cup of coffee by a fire. It could be giving yourself a luxurious pedicure. It could even be watching a movie all by yourself to get some alone time. Whatever self care means to you, write it out and make time for it.

Remember that we don't need to have everything figured out by the end of January. This is beginning. There is so much hope and excitement surrounding 2021 and I hope you take the time to build a healthy mindset around the things that you would like to accomplish. Starting to incorporate self care into your routine will give you an overall sense of well being and balance. It is amazing what the mind can do when we give it a little pep talk.
